If you’re not familiar with Public Sector software development you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s all about massive failed IT projects, tied up with legacy infrastructure and enough security red-tape to make sure nothing ever gets done. That’s because it was... once upon a time.

It’s good that, every year since 2006, on 28th January we celebrate Data Protection day. What’s most important about it is that every year, it spotlights the ever-growing importance of protecting personal data. It gives data protection professionals, and those working in related professions, the chance to raise awareness about the rights to personal data protection and privacy inside their organisations and to the general public. But, in reality, Data Protection day should be every day.

​At Fivium, as well as assisting the public sector in their digital transformation efforts, we like to make sure we give back to the community. Earlier this week I had the pleasure of doing just that.

Our annual Hack Days are one of the highlights of our year as developers. They’re a chance for us to experiment with new technology, play with fun ideas and socialise across our different dev teams. Each developer taking part builds a prototype of an idea they think is interesting in around 10 hours, then, in the evening, everyone demos their idea before we award prizes in lots of different categories.

We are delighted to announce that our Director, Richard Clarke, has been re-elected to the position of Vice Chair of techUK’s Central Government Council. The appointment will see Richard play a lead role in representing the Central Government tech supplier community.

​Although Valentine’s day has been and gone, that doesn’t mean that love, kindness and understanding should stop for the rest of the year. In fact, now that our team is more geographically disparate than ever before, we’ve found that focusing on emotional intelligence has become even more important.

Couple this with resources being reallocated and teams unable to run at full capacity, it is easy to understand why compliance rates have dropped.
